Authentication

All requests require an API key passed via header.

Pricing: Billed at $0.002 per frame — a flat rate per call. The length of the source video does not change the price: one frame out of a 3-second clip and one frame out of a 30-minute recording both cost $0.002.

Retries: this is an asynchronous job on shared encoding capacity, so a request can occasionally come back processing_failed or take much longer than usual. These are transient and succeed on a retry, and a failed job is never charged — the wallet hold is released. If you chain these tools, retry a failed step rather than failing the whole pipeline.

Webhook (Optional)

Add the X-Webhook-URL header to your generate request to receive a POST callback instead of polling.

Request Parameters - Video Frame Extractor generate request

The output is a still image, not a video — a PNG unless you set to_format. Seeking happens after decode, so you get the frame at that timestamp rather than the nearest keyframe. A position past the end of the video is an error, not a clamp.

Transparency is flattened onto white when the chosen to_format has no alpha channel (JPG, BMP). output.media_type on the completed job reports the MIME type you actually asked for, so read it rather than assuming image/png.

Chaining: this is the first half of the documented two-step for turning a video into vector art. Extract a still here, then POST that still’s media_url to /media-tools/v1/image-vectorize. Two calls, each polled on its own, $0.002 + $0.002 = $0.004 in total. There is no one-call path — the vectorizer is a raster tracer and rejects video input.

Typical Workflow

1. Send a generate request to the API endpoint
2. Save the request_id from the response
3. Poll every 5-10 seconds: GET /v2/requests/status/{request_id}
4. When status is "COMPLETED", download from output.media_url
