Video to GIF API - Convert Video to Animated GIF: Pricing, Documentation

by Pixazo

Turn a section of a video into a looping GIF. Two-pass palette generation avoids the muddy banding single-pass encoding produces, and fps and width let you trade smoothness against file size.

Video to GIF 1.0 API Documentation

https://gateway.pixazo.ai/media-tools/v1/video-to-gif

Authentication

All requests require an API key passed via header.

Pricing: Billed at $0.002 per second of source video — the length of the clip you send. A 10-second source costs $0.02.

Rounding: billing is per second but always rounds up to a whole second — a 5.06-second source bills as 6 seconds. The shortest billable job is 1 second.

Retries: this is an asynchronous job on shared encoding capacity, so a request can occasionally come back processing_failed or take much longer than usual. These are transient and succeed on a retry, and a failed job is never charged — the wallet hold is released. If you chain these tools, retry a failed step rather than failing the whole pipeline.

Request Parameters - Video to GIF generate request

Parameter Required Type Default Allowed values / range Description
video_urlYesstringHTTP(S) URL to an MP4 or MOVPublicly reachable URL of the source video.
duration_secondsYesnumber0.1 – 209How much of the video to turn into a GIF. Required: a GIF's size grows with length, so this is what bounds the output.
start_secondsNonumber00 or greaterWhere the GIF starts, in seconds. Must sit inside the source.
fpsNointeger101 – 30Frames per second. Higher is smoother and much larger.
widthNointeger48064 – 1920Output width in pixels. Height follows the source, so the aspect ratio is preserved.

Size: a GIF grows with fps × width × seconds, roughly (fps/10) × (width/480) × seconds × 0.4 MB. At the defaults that is about 209 seconds before the encoder refuses; at 30fps and 1920px it is closer to 17. Over budget returns input_too_large.

                    → ERROR

Typical Workflow

  1. Send a generate request to the API endpoint
  2. Save the request_id from the response
  3. Poll every 5-10 seconds: GET /v2/requests/status/{request_id}
  4. When status is "COMPLETED", download from output.media_url

Tip: Use X-Webhook-URL header to get a callback instead of polling.
