What does a GIF to MOV converter do?
A GIF to MOV converter re-wraps a looping GIF as a MOV video file. MOV is Apple's QuickTime container — it opens in video editors and players, carries full colour, and behaves like real footage. Pixazo unrolls your GIF's frames onto a video timeline and encodes a MOV clip you can trim, restyle or drop into a bigger edit.
Your loop stops being a heavy image and becomes a proper clip: scrubbable, editor-ready and full-colour — the format editors and video platforms actually want.
- Input: an animated (or static) GIF
- Output: a MOV (QuickTime) video clip
- Colour: encoded from the GIF's frames
- Editing: opens in editors and players
- Cost: free, no watermark
Why convert GIF to MOV?
A GIF is fine as an inline loop, but it is not video — it is capped at 256 colours, heavy for its length, and most editors and upload forms would rather have a real clip. MOV is a true video format: full colour, timeline-ready, and accepted wherever a video is expected. Convert when your loop needs to live inside a video project, get trimmed or restyled, or upload somewhere that asks for video rather than an image.
| Property | GIF | MOV |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Looping image | Video file |
| Colour | 256 per frame | Full colour |
| Audio | None | Supported (none added here) |
| Editing | Awkward in editors | Opens in any editor |
| File size | Heavy for its length | Larger, but efficient video |
What are the limits?
- No sound is added. A GIF has no audio, so the MOV comes out silent — converting can't invent a soundtrack that was never there.
- The file gets bigger. MOV is a full video container, so the clip is usually larger than the GIF it came from. You trade size for an editable video.
- Colour can't come back. Your GIF only ever had 256 colours. MOV can hold more, but the converter re-encodes what is there — it does not repaint lost colour.
- It is a container change. Pixazo re-wraps your frames as video; it does not upscale, smooth or restyle them. The loop becomes a clip, as-is.
What can you use it for?
- Video editing — drop a loop onto a timeline in Premiere, Final Cut or CapCut.
- Uploads that want video — post where a GIF is rejected but MOV is fine.
- Backgrounds & overlays — reuse a loop as a motion layer in a bigger edit.
- Presentations — add a clean, autoplaying clip to a slide.
- Archiving — keep a loop in a standard, editable video format.
- Restyling — take the MOV into an editor to recolour, crop or add sound.
Tips for a clean MOV
- Start from a sharp GIF. The MOV can only be as clean as the frames it is built from — a crisp GIF makes a crisp clip.
- Ask for the loop length you want. Tell Agent P how many times to repeat so the clip is the right duration for your edit.
- Add sound in your editor. Since the MOV is silent, drop a track on it afterwards if you need audio.
- Keep the frame rate steady. A consistent GIF timing carries into smoother playback in the MOV.

GIF to MOV converter FAQ
Does the MOV have sound?
No. A GIF has no audio, so the MOV is silent. The converter changes the format — it can't add a soundtrack that was never in the file. Add one in your editor afterwards if you need it.
Does the MOV keep the loop?
Yes. Your GIF's frames are unrolled onto a video timeline, so the motion carries over. Ask Agent P if you want it to repeat for longer.
Is the MOV bigger than the GIF?
Usually, yes. MOV is a full video container, so the clip weighs more than the GIF. You trade size for a real, editable video.
Can I edit the MOV afterwards?
Yes — that is the point. MOV opens in video editors and players, so you can trim it, recolour it, add audio, or drop it into a bigger project.
Will the MOV look better than the GIF?
It won't add detail the GIF never had — colour is re-encoded from 256-colour frames. But it plays more smoothly, holds full colour going forward, and is far easier to edit.
Which apps open a MOV?
Most players and editors — QuickTime, VLC, Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut and more — plus most upload forms that accept video.
Is the GIF to MOV converter free?
Yes. It runs free on the Lite mode in the Pixazo playground. You sign in once with a free account, and there is no watermark on the result.
Can I convert GIF to MOV on my phone?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser, so it works the same on a phone, tablet or laptop with nothing to install.
