What an SVG to JPG converter does to your artwork
An SVG is not a picture of pixels. It is XML text describing shapes, paths and fills, drawn fresh each time it is displayed. A JPG is a finished grid of coloured pixels with no memory of how it was drawn. The flatten pass is the moment one becomes the other.

Three decisions freeze in that instant: the pixel dimensions, the colour replacing transparency, and the compression quality. None can be recovered by reopening the JPG — only by going back to the SVG. That is the whole reason to keep it.

Can Pixazo run this pass for you today?
No. Pixazo's image converter is raster-to-raster: it moves files between HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF. It does not trace raster artwork into vector paths, and it does not rasterise an SVG into pixels. Handing an SVG to the AI VFX Studio and getting a JPG back is not something it does.

Shapes versus pixels, property by property
Most flatten-pass regrets come from expecting a JPG to behave like the SVG it came from. These properties change hands.

Read it as a trade, not a ranking. You give up scalability, transparency and editability; you get a file everything accepts without question. When universal acceptance is the point, the trade is worth making.
The pass, stage by stage
Four stages of an SVG to JPG converter you can defend
Whatever renders your SVG, the sequence is the same. Decide the grid, decide the background, draw once, then keep the master safe.
Fix the pixel grid before anything else
Decide the final width and height where the JPG will be used. Because the SVG is resolution-independent you can name any size at this point — and only at this point.
Choose the colour that replaces transparency
JPG has no transparency channel, so every empty area becomes something solid. Pick that colour to match the background it will sit on, rather than letting a default decide.
Draw once, at quality, and inspect the edges
Render at your chosen size, then inspect thin strokes, small text and hard colour boundaries. That is where lossy compression shows first.
Archive the SVG as the master
Store the original alongside the JPG and treat the JPG as disposable. Every future size or background comes from a fresh pass, never from resaving the flattened file.

Who ends up needing a flattened SVG?
Nobody flattens artwork for fun. It happens when the destination refuses vectors.
Forms that only take JPG
Marketplace listings, application portals and older admin panels often accept JPG and nothing else.
Email and messaging
Email clients are the least adventurous software most of us use daily. A JPG renders everywhere without a fallback.
Legacy CMS libraries
Older content systems sometimes reject SVG uploads outright. A flattened version is the practical way to publish inside them.
People without design software
A colleague who cannot open an SVG can always open a JPG. Send both: master and flattened proof.
The bill
What the pass takes and will not hand back
These are not bugs in anyone's tool — they are what flattening means. Knowing them in advance is the difference between a clean output and a reprint.
Scalability is spent
Once the grid is fixed, the billboard option is gone. Enlarging cannot invent detail that was never drawn.
Transparency does not survive
Whatever colour filled the empty space is now part of the picture, in every pixel.
Editability is gone
You cannot recolour a shape in a JPG, because there are no shapes left to recolour.
Each save costs a little
JPG re-compresses on every save, so repeated edit-and-save cycles slowly soften the image.
And the limit that matters most here: Pixazo will not perform this pass. The five raster formats are its converter's whole remit.
The background question
Empty space has to become a colour
In an SVG, the space around a logo is not white — it is nothing, because nothing was drawn there. A JPG cannot express nothing, so at the moment of the pass that emptiness is filled in, and it stays filled.
Flatten on the tone the mark will actually sit on. If you do not know where it will be used, hand over the SVG instead, or keep a raster format with an alpha channel. The trap is the halo: a mark flattened on white then dropped onto colour wears a pale rectangle no pixel editing removes cleanly.

Craft
Habits that keep a flattened file honest
Small disciplines, all free, all wished for after the fact.
- Flatten at the size it will be used, not a round number picked out of habit.
- Put the dimensions and background in the filename; neither is recoverable from the pixels.
- Keep quality high on artwork with hard edges; flat shapes stress lossy compression differently from photographs.
- Check the smallest word at 100% before signing off; type is where a soft pass shows.
- If the file must stay transparent, JPG is the wrong destination entirely.

When flattening is the wrong instinct
Half the value of a one-way door is knowing when not to walk through it. If the destination accepts SVG, send the SVG: sharper on every screen, still editable, small for flat artwork. And if your subject is photographic the question barely applies, because an SVG cannot hold photographic detail in the first place.

Does Pixazo convert SVG files to JPG?

Why is the flatten pass called one-way?
Because the output keeps no record of the shapes it came from. Getting editable artwork back means going back to the SVG.
What happens to the transparent parts of my SVG?

Can I enlarge the JPG afterwards if I need it bigger?
Not without softening it. The pass fixed one width and height, so run a fresh pass on the SVG at the larger size.
Should I delete the SVG once I have the JPG?
